This book is billed as one man’s method of quitting hillbilly heroin (by going on the road with rock ‘n’ roll bands, naturally). Forbes is a bass player, and his book contains some gloriously-written tales of excess, sadness and glory (think Bill Bryson or Nick Hornby, but without the smug cleverness) that takes the man from Tampa to St Petersburg via Brussels and, naturally, Wrexham. Each chapter is not only ascribed to a town, but also to a particular band/artist (a catholic bunch that includes Anthrax, Franz Ferdinand and BB King) and it is the kind of book you will read aloud to people so they can get the full effect of the text.

‘Some wonderful descriptive writing. A very funny, occasionally disturbing, sometimes moving book. I heartily recommend it.’
